How can you help?

Volunteer at events

We host about 50 robotics events each year and we couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers! Some events require more than 100 volunteers to run. You do not need any prior experience to volunteer with us, just be willing to learn and most importantly, to have FUN. Contact volunteering@ortop.org so we can help you find the best role for you at events!

Volunteer with teams

Coaches and Mentors are the adults who help guide FIRST Teams of all levels. No matter what your skillset is, your expertise can help. The FIRST Mentor Network is an interactive platform allowing teams and interested mentors to easily find each other for both virtual or face-to-face mentorship. Learn more here.

Leadership

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, ORTOP is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Open seats on the Board as well as advisory committees are filled every year, with a focus on selecting members with skills in finance, leadership and governance, and law. People with lived experience in underserved, underrepresented, and vulnerable communities are encouraged to apply. How do you get started?

Step 1: Get Informed.

Learn what it means to volunteer with ORTOP or a FIRST Team.

  • Review our Volunteer Opportunity Types above and determine your interest.
  • Contact volunteering@ortop.org for more detail or to help you register for a volunteer account.

Step 2: Register Account

Create or update your FIRST volunteer profile at firstinspires.org.

  • First-time volunteers register an account.
  • Returning volunteers log in and update your FIRST account for this season.

Step 3: Sign Up

Select volunteer role, location, and event days.

  • Volunteers must have Youth Protection Program (YPP) certification completed by FIRST to ensure students are protected.
  • Complete any online training (required for some technical roles) before your event date.

Step 4: Show Up

  • Each event or Team has someone that coordinates volunteers. They will reach out to get you started.
