FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge Overview
FIRST LEGO League® is a science, technology, engineering, and math program for a team of 3 to 10 members in 4th-8th grades. The competitive season begins in late August when the new scientific theme is revealed. Students showcase their work at Oregon qualifying tournament competitions in December, followed by two championship tournaments in January. FIRST LEGO League challenges teams to solve a real-world problem with their own innovative solution and to design, build, and program a LEGO robot to manipulate LEGO models based on real world challenges. Team members do all of the work guided by their adult coaches and mentors, while using FIRST Core Values. The RePLAYSM theme runs from August 2020 into 2021 in Oregon. On August 4, 2020, FIRST conducted the kick off for the season including a video.
Teams are self-forming and must be registered with FIRST to participate in the current season.
National and Oregon registration are still open as of November 15, 2020. Click here for ORTOP Season Registration information.
FIRST LEGO League Challenge Qualifying tournaments will be held in Oregon in April 2021. See the April calendar on the ORTOP Calendar page.
